Local Dispensing Optician, Joanne Benfield of Edmonds & Slatter Opticians in Lutterworth, is joining the World Sight Day Challenge during the month of October to help give the gift of vision to people in developing countries and underserved communities.
During October, Edmonds & Slatter will be asking for donations from all their patients after complimentary adjustments and repairs to help the 600 million people in the world who are blind or vision impaired simply because they do not have access to an eye exam or glasses.
“We have supported Optometry Giving Sight for 3 years now and I am proud to donate to such a worthwhile cause,” said Joanne. “The World Sight Day Challenge is a great way to help support the millions of people who don’t have access to the basic eye care that we can take for granted.”
This major fundraising campaign coordinated by Optometry Giving Sight is designed to raise funds for projects that provide vision care, local training and infrastructure support for people who are blind or vision impaired due to uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye exam and a pair of glasses.
Children are especially vulnerable. Providing vision correction to a school-aged child can literally transform their entire life. Just £3 can provide an eye examination and a pair of glasses for someone in a developing country.
Edmonds & Slatter Opticians is located on the High Street in Lutterworth. Call (01455) 556053 to book an appointment. For more information about Optometry Giving Sight and the World Sight Day Challenge visit www.givingsight.org.
