A Blaby Opticians has become one of the first practices in the East Midlands to offer patients the new Daytona eye care technology as part of their advanced eye examinations in an effort to help raise the standard and importance of regular eye tests.
Most of us know to have our car serviced, or visit the dentist for a check-up, but how many of us know to have our eyes checked even if we’re not experiencing any sight problems? Eye tests are more than just checking the need for glasses or contact lenses, but are also about checking the health of the inside of our eyes (the retina) and our body. The eye is the only place in the body where, without surgery, it’s possible to look in and see blood vessels, arteries and a cranial nerve so it’s vital to have regular eye tests that include a comprehensive retina check.
Daytona is the latest imaging technology available from Optos and it offers patients the most comprehensive and ground-breaking retinal exam available in a quick and painless procedure. The high-resolution Optomap images Daytona produces can help practitioners detect early signs of eye conditions (e.g. retinal tears/detachments, AMD, glaucoma) and non-eye diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Saagar Hirani said: “I am proud to be able to offer wide field Optomap retinal imaging with Daytona. Checking the health of our patients’ retinas and detecting eye conditions earlier means we can help protect our patients’ vision and overall health.”
Daytona images are known as Optomaps as they “map” a representation of up to 80% of the inside your eye; they can be easily stored and compared for future use. High Street eye exams can only image up to a 15% of the retina at one time, so with Optomap’s ability to see more, it can reveal more, and therefore can help detect any problems earlier.
