As we celebrate Guide Dogs Week 2015, it seems fitting to announce that Edmonds and Slatter Opticians will be supporting Guide Dogs as their Charity of the Year for 2016.
Guide Dogs provide mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people, and campaign for the rights of people with visual impairment, educate the public about eye care and fund eye disease research. Whilst there were a number of charities nominated for the Charity of the Year, the opticians decided to support Guide Dogs as this allows them to continue to help those who are visually impaired in addition to the support they provide to patients.
Edmonds and Slatter’s fundraising for the charity will begin on 27th November when the opticians will host a raffle at their Lutterworth and Blaby practices. Several other fundraising events are planned throughout the year, and on a day-to-day basis patients will be encouraged to donate to the charity when receiving complimentary spectacle adjustments.
“As an independent practice it is really important for us to engage with the community and almost all of the team at Edmonds & Slatter volunteer their free time for our charity events. I’m pleased that our efforts have been recognised with a shortlisting for the Charity Initiative of the Year category at the AOP Awards” said Tim Cole, Partner at Edmonds and Slatter. The results of the Awards will be announced on the evening of 5th November 2015.
Tickets for the charity raffles will be available to purchase on the 27th November from either practice. Anybody is welcome to come along. The practices will be open late until 7:30pm, with refreshments served in the evening. There may even be an appearance from a guide dog in training!
