Edmonds & Slatter Opticians were very pleased to receive delivery of a new retinal scanning system at their Glenfield practice this week. This will be the third Optomap unit for the Leicestershire based independent opticians, having already made use of the fantastic technology at their Blaby and Lutterworth practices.
Practice Manager and Dispensing Optician Jayne Burton said “Regular sight tests are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. Edmonds & Slatter Glenfield now offers the Optomap as an important part of our Advanced sight tests.” She continued “It produces a unique, high-resolution 200 degree image to check the health of the inside of the back of your eye, your retina. This is much larger than the traditional 45 degree image”
Jayne concluded by advising that “Many eye problems can develop without you knowing – in fact, you may not even notice any change in your sight. Fortunately, diseases or damage such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be seen with a thorough examination of your retina.”
Including the Optomap as part of your Advanced sight test provides:
• An image to show a healthy eye or detect disease.
• A view of the retina that gives the optician a more comprehensive view than other methods.
• The opportunity for you to view and discuss the Optomap image of your eye with your optician the time of your sight test.
• An image in your optical records which allows the optician to compare over time and look for changes.
The Optomap is fast, easy, and comfortable for anyone. The image capture process consists of you looking into the device one eye at a time, much like looking into an oversized key hole while photographs are taken. The Optomap images are then shown immediately on a computer screen in the opticians test room so they can review them with you.
