Edmonds & Slatter Opticians have been offering a diversely recognised eye care service to the local community for over thirty years and continue to do so by offering much more than a basic sight test. Patients can also choose to book for additional examinations at their Blaby practice including: The Coloured Overlay Assessment and Intuitive Colorimetry.
The examinations are specifically designed to ease symptoms caused by “Meares-Irlen Syndrome” or “Visual Stress” (MISVIS) by using coloured overlays or coloured lenses whilst reading. MISVIS is a photosensitivity problem that is commonly associated with patients who suffer from Photo-Sensitive Migraines and Dyslexia. Symptoms include skipping words or lines, using a finger as a marker and movement or glare patterns appearing in text.
Dyslexia is a term that covers many sensory problems, which affect learning and can often be confused with MISVIS. Although they both affect reading performance they are not the same condition. MISVIS can also exist as part of other conditions and learning difficulties. When identified and treated coloured tints can make these difficulties easier to live with.
During a full eye examination, if the patient has been suffering from headaches or reading difficulties, a simple screening test will demonstrate whether a Coloured Overlay Assessment will help to improve the speed and accuracy of reading.
If the patient responds positively to the coloured overlay after a few weeks of use then the optician would recommend that Intuitive Colorimetry is used to identify the exact coloured tint that may be required for spectacles. To do this a screening test would be conducted using a special Colorimetry machine which works through many options and varying intensities of colour with the patient.
Coloured Lenses are more practical and accurate for use in the classroom or work environment and have helped thousands of individuals to overcome their reading difficulties.
