Edmonds & Slatter Opticians organised their second official charity golf day this September in aid of local charity, Matthew Needham’s Treasure Chest.
The charity was set up in 2005 after Matthew, aged 9, passed away following open heart surgery at Glenfield Hospital.
Matthews’s parents along with the trustee's run the charity to raise funds to purchase medical equipment for the children's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Glenfield hospital as well as gifts, special days out and medical equipment for poorly children and families
in the local area.
Matthew Needham's Treasure chest has raised over £90,000 and Edmonds & Slatter Opticians have chosen to support them this year as every penny raised makes a very big difference to local children.
The golf day was hosted by Mr Saagar Hirani, partner and Optometrist at Edmonds & Slatter Opticians and started off with bacon cobs and coffee before the fundraising commenced. Right from the first tee-off Golfers were being “fined” for a number of things with all money going towards the charity. There were also two competitions running during the day for “Longest Drive” and “Closest to the pin”.
After the golf, players settled down for a well-deserved Sunday Lunch, but the fundraising didn’t stop there. A raffle for a pair of golfing sunglasses was conducted and fines built up on the golf course were collected.
The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all the golfers, some have even asked for a re match next year! A total of £332.77 was raised by the golfers for Edmonds & Slatter’s chosen charity – Matthew Needham’s Treasure Chest.
