The sun is here and so are the UV rays! There are three types of Ultraviolet (UV) rays that come from sunlight, UVA, UVB and UVC. UVC is absorbed by the ozone layer and does not reach the earth, but UVA and UVB light rays are the ones your eyes need to be protected from.
Your eyes are the only internal tissue in your body exposed to UV light. They are exposed every day of the year, even in cloudy conditions. Children need to protect their eyes from UV just as much as adults do. Ultra-violet light is present even when it’s not sunny and the damage accumulates over a lifetime. It can speed up the ageing of the eyes, and promote the development of eye problems – including cataract formation, skin cancer and retinal damage with long term exposure.
If you wear glasses you can still have sunglasses made for you. Sunglasses can be made to your normal optical prescription. You can choose the colour and depth of tint. You might also opt for photochromic lenses that darken in sunshine. Sunglasses need to fit your face well in order to be effective at stopping UV light. Our dispensing opticians will be happy to advise which options will fit and suit you best.
With our range of prescription sunglasses starting from £59.95 for adults and £39.95 for children we have something for everyone. Sunglasses protect your eyes from the harmful effects of UV light and they can look great too without costing the earth!
