Carotenoids are mainly red, orange or yellow fat-soluble pigments, found in colourful fruits and vegetables, and are important because our bodies cannot produce them. They are essential for eye health and are recognised for their antioxidant properties. Unfortunately, due to declining food quality, it can be difficult to get enough carotenoids through diet alone.

For our patients wanting to increase their carotenoid levels we often suggest MacuPrime, a high-quality food supplement containing three carotenoids: Lutein, Meso-Zeaxanthin, and Zeaxanthin. Taken once a day, it delivers nutrients to the protective macula pigment. These carotenoids gather at the macula to protect light-sensitive cells in the eye. The carotenoids in MacuPrime are obtained from natural sources, specifically extracted from the marigold flower using a patented process by Industrial Orgánica SA, a company with over 50 years of expertise in carotenoid production.
